Trump Open to Rescheduling Meeting with Putin Amid Ukraine Negotiations

Doha: US President Donald Trump announced today that he would reschedule his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin if he were confident of reaching an agreement on Ukraine. When asked about the conditions under which he would be willing to meet with Putin, the US president said, “We have to know that we intend to make a deal.”

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Trump expressed his disappointment with the progress of the peace settlement in Ukraine while speaking to White House reporters aboard his plane during a refueling stop in Doha en route to Malaysia. Despite his disappointment, Trump noted that his relationship “has always been very good with Vladimir Putin.”

Trump announced early Thursday morning that he had canceled his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest, Hungary. The cancellation was discussed during a press conference with the Hungarian Foreign Minister at the White House, where Trump remarked, “I get the impression that we won’t reach our goal… but we will meet in the future.”

The announcement came despite the Hungarian Foreign Minister’s confirmation that the meeting between the two leaders would take place, with the timing being the only unresolved issue, as reported by Russia Today. Later, White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt stated that a meeting between Presidents Putin and Trump was still possible, emphasizing the necessity for a tangible, positive outcome.
