UK Ambassador Condemns Attack on UNIFIL Personnel in South Lebanon

Beirut: British Ambassador to Lebanon Hamish Cowell expressed sadness following the death of a UNIFIL peacekeeper and the injury of two others in an attack in south Lebanon.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Ambassador Cowell stated in a post on X that he was "appalled and saddened" by the incident, which led to the death of a peacekeeper and left two others injured. He emphasized that the United Kingdom "strongly condemns all attacks against UNIFIL personnel" and highlighted the importance of ensuring their safety and ability to fulfill their mandate.

Earlier, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported that a peacekeeper had died from critical injuries sustained when mortar shells hit his position near Marjayoun in southeastern Lebanon. UNIFIL also confirmed that two additional peacekeepers were injured in the incident and are currently receiving medical treatment at a facility within the mission's base.
