UN Secretary-General Condemns Israeli Strikes in Lebanon

Beirut: The United Nations Secretary-General has issued a strong condemnation of the recent Israeli military strikes in Lebanon, highlighting the severe impact on civilian lives and infrastructure. The attacks, carried out on April 8, resulted in hundreds of civilian casualties, including children, and significant damage to civilian infrastructure, raising international concern.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the Secretary-General extended his condolences to the Lebanese government and its people, expressing hopes for a swift recovery for the injured. The statement also emphasized the risk posed by continued military activities in Lebanon to the recently announced ceasefire between Iran and the United States, which is seen as a crucial step toward achieving lasting peace in the region.

The Secretary-General reiterated the importance of respecting international law and international humanitarian law, underscoring the necessity to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure at all times. He condemned any attacks directed at these targets as unacceptable and reaffirmed that there is no military solution to the ongoing conflict.

The statement concluded with a call for all parties involved to pursue diplomatic solutions and ensure the full implementation of Security Council resolution 1701, which remains a cornerstone for peace efforts in the region.
