GAZA CITY: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has issued a stark warning about the imminent threat of famine in the Gaza Strip. The region’s residents are grappling with severe food insecurity and a dearth of humanitarian aid due to an Israeli military campaign that has persisted for over 14 months, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, UNRWA highlighted the dire situation through a series of posts on its X account, underscoring the insufficiency of current aid efforts. The agency expressed grave concerns over the severe food insecurity plaguing Gaza’s population and called for urgent international cooperation and a ceasefire to facilitate the delivery of life-saving assistance in the face of the looming famine.

The crisis has intensified across much of the Gaza Strip, particularly in the northern governorate, where the effects of the ongoing Israeli blockade are most pronounced. The blockade, compounded by acts described as
genocide and starvation, aims to compel residents to flee south. The agency’s call to action comes as the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate under these conditions.

Recent developments saw the Israeli occupation army initiating another invasion into the northern Gaza Strip on October 5. Reports indicate that Israel’s strategic objective may be to establish a buffer zone by displacing the local population through relentless military actions, which include prohibitions on the entry of essential supplies such as food, water, and medicine.
