US AMBASSADOR VISITS MARONITE LEAGUE, WARNS PROLONGED PRESIDENTIAL VOID NOT IN LEBANON’S INTEREST

US Ambassador to Lebanon, Dorothy Shea, on Tuesday visited the headquarters of the Maronite League, where she was received by the league’s President, Ambassador Khalil Karam, and members of the Executive Council.

Ambassador Shea gave a detailed presentation on the US contributions to a number of developmental projects in Lebanon. She also highlighted the effective role that the US played in accelerating the maritime boundary demarcation agreement.

Moreover, the US diplomat highlighted the importance of electing a new president of the republic, warning that any prolongation of the presidential vacuum is not in Lebanon’s interest.

“The required reforms must be decided upon in order to accelerate the agreement with the International Monetary Fund, which would allow donor countries and organizations to start helping Lebanon to rise,” the US diplomat added.

Shea finally stressed that the situation in Lebanon was not hopeless, pointing to an agreement to activate cooperation with the Maronite League in its fields of competence.
