WEHBE: LEBANESE AUTHORITIES CONCERNED ABOUT HUMAN RIGHTS PROTECTION

Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs, Charbel Wehbe, on Thursday affirmed in the wake of the ill-fated arson incident that targeted Syrian refugee camps in Bhannine, that Lebanon and the Lebanese authorities, within the framework of their humanitarian and political responsibilities, were concerned about the protection of human rights, displaced persons, and refugees present on Lebanese territory, for as long as the latter respected Lebanese laws.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked the judiciary and the concerned security authorities to take all necessary measures and to initiate an investigation to unearth the circumstances of this incident in order to track down and punish the perpetrators of this act,” Wehbe said.

He then focused on the dire situation facing Lebanon, warning of a security and social chaos that would threaten refugees, internally displaced people, and the Lebanese in general.
