After the meeting, Al-Asmar said: “Our visit to H.E. PM Diab comes in light of the current collapse and the demand voiced by some parties to increase prices on medicine, foodstuffs, and other goods. We demanded that wages be corrected for workers by means of raising the minimum wage, increasing transportation allowance, family compensation and school grants, on the basis of which we will call the Index Committee to start a dialogue on that. We also discussed with H.E. the issue of depositors’ funds and the protection of NSSF and public servants’ Cooperative so that they can fully perform their duties in these difficult circumstances and increase their hospitalization and medical benefits, for the citizen is currently paying a huge sum for the bill’s amount not covered by guarantors when admitted to the hospital, ranging between 15 million and 20 million LBP. We also deliberated with Prime Minister Diab on the necessity of forming a rescue government, as he insisted on the country’s need for a government to be formed. We also discussed the issue of black marketchange platforms that are causing arbitrary pricesurges, and PM Diab affirmed that he sent directives to relevant ministers, especially Ministers of Interior and Economy, to tighten control over commodities. As for the fuel crisis,Premier Diab promised that a new schedule for fuel pricing will be issued to solve thisworsening crisis. For our part, we highlighted the fact that lifting subsidies should be accompanied by the implementation of the ration card, provided that the number of beneficiaries is raised to one million citizens, with no additional conditions. Finally, we hoped that all necessary measures will be taken to reduce congestion at Beirut International Airport with the return of expatriates to Lebanon”.– Caretaker PM Press Office
