Qatar’s Ambassador to Lebanon, Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz Al-Sahlawi, on Wednesday conveyed to Prime Minister Najib Mikati the felicitations of the State of Qatar on the success of parliamentary elections.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
After his visit to Premier Mikati at the Grand Serail today, he said: “I\u2019ve conveyed to PM Mikati my felicitations on the success of the electoral process. The State of Qatar has always welcomed and welcomes conducting elections in Lebanon. We hope the outcome of this election will lead to a general consensus that helps achieve other electoral deadlines.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Regarding the outcome of legislative elections, he said: “These are the results of democracy, and the State of Qatar has always stood at an equal distance from all the political parties in Lebanon.”<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Premier Mikati also met at the Grand Serail with Information Minister, Ziad Makary, with discussions reportedly touching on affairs related to the Ministry of Information.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister also met with Minister of Tourism, Walid Nassar, who congratulated the PM on the successful completion of the electoral process.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Premier Mikati met earlier with Lebanese Armed Forces Commander, General Joseph Aoun, and discussed with him the security situation and the military establishment\u2019s demands.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Mikati also met at the Grand Serail with the Head of the General Labor Confederation (GLC), Bechara Al-Asmar, accompanied by a GLC delegation, who congratulated the government on the successful organization and completion of the constitutional electoral deadline.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
On emerging, Al Asmar said that they also discussed the issue of transportation allowances and social assistance, in light of the skyrocketing rise in the US dollar exchange rate.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Al-Asmar said that the GLC insists at this stage on increasing the transportation allowance so that workers in the public and private sectors can carry out their daily functions, and monitoring the uncontrolled prices.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Separately, Mikati met with Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Abbas Hajj Hassan, and the Country Director and Representative of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) office in Lebanon, Abdallah Alwardat, over the strategic plan to enhance food security in Lebanon.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
