YASSIN REGRETS FELLING OF TREES IN AKKAR

Caretaker Minister of Environment, Nasser Yassin, expressed his regret for the excessive cutting of forest trees, including oaks, in Akkar.

“The solution is to organize descaling and cleaning of biomass under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture and with the help of municipalities and the administrations of nature reserves where they are located,” he said, adding that “this benefits forests and provides firewood and fuel for people to keep warm.”

Yassin disclosed that he submitted “at least 100 reports to environmental prosecutors, who tried their best by investigating and opening records, but there are serious questions about the application and sovereignty of the law.”
