63 Archaeological Sites Appeare After The Receding Of The Waters Of Mosul Dam Lake, Northwest Of Mosul

The Department of Antiquities and Heritage of Nineveh revealed the emergence of 63 archaeological sites after the receding of the waters of the Mosul Dam Lake and its level decreased.

A source in the Director of Antiquities and Heritage of Nineveh told the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) that “these 63 archaeological sites are located in the northwestern axis of the Zummar district, adjacent to the Mosul Dam.”

He added, “There are other archaeological sites that were discovered as a result of the receding of the waters of the Mosul Dam, which are close to Dohuk Governorate, and there are about 120 archaeological sites.”

He pointed out that “local excavation teams and some Italian excavation teams are trying to save what remains of some archaeological sites near the dam.”
