Beirut: President Joseph Aoun emphasized the necessity for the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) to function as a non-sectarian institution, serving all Lebanese citizens equitably. He urged the board to prioritize social security while modernizing and enhancing transparency in its service delivery.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Aoun's remarks came during a meeting with the NSSF Board Chairman Bechara Asmar and a delegation from the fund's board of directors. Aoun underscored the importance of preserving public funds, especially end-of-service indemnities for insured workers, and ensuring comprehensive health coverage for retirees.

Aoun identified corruption as Lebanon's core issue, advocating for a robust and impartial judiciary to tackle it effectively. He also highlighted the significance of digital transformation in improving governance and accountability.

Post-meeting, Asmar detailed the board's recent initiatives to the president. These include plans to enhance benefits, transition from the existing end-of-service indemnity system to a pension scheme, and restore compensation for workers who exited employment between 2019 and 2024. Additionally, the NSSF aims to broaden its coverage to include new categories and advance its digital infrastructure.
