Aoun Receives Call from Vance and Rubio: US Support for Lebanese State Authority Strengthening

Beirut: The President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, received a phone call on Tuesday afternoon from US Vice President JD Vance and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The discussion focused on the latest developments in Lebanon and the post-meeting phase of the Swiss gatherings.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Vance and Rubio expressed the United States' support for the positions of the President of the Republic and the Lebanese government in their efforts to extend legitimate state authority and strengthen sovereignty across the entire territory. This is to be achieved through the army and security forces exclusively, enabling the state to fulfill its commitments in this area.

The US officials also highlighted their country's monitoring of the implementation of agreements reached during the Swiss meetings, particularly the establishment of a cell comprising the United States, Lebanon, and the Islamic Republic of Iran. This cell is tasked with consolidating the ceasefire in Lebanon and overseeing the application of related measures.

The officials mentioned that the working methods and composition of this cell are currently under review.

President Aoun, on his part, thanked the US Vice President and Secretary of State for the attention given by the United States to Lebanon. This support aims to end the war, strengthen the authority of the Lebanese state, and support its decision-making independence as the sole authority responsible for preserving national sovereignty, as well as the security and dignity of the Lebanese people.
