Aoun Stresses State and Army as Sole Protectors of Lebanon; Plans to Urge Trump on Israeli Withdrawal

Beirut: President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, emphasized to a delegation from the Ameli Association that the protection of Lebanon rests solely with the Lebanese state and army, not political factions or sectarian influences. He recalled Imam Musa al-Sadr's pioneering stance against the exploitation of South Lebanon for purposes not aligned with Lebanese interests.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Aoun expressed that the residents of South Lebanon deserve a peaceful existence after enduring prolonged conflict. He outlined Lebanon's priorities, which include the complete withdrawal of Israel from Lebanese territories, the return of displaced individuals, the release of detainees and remains, and the reconstruction of affected areas. Aoun highlighted that these national goals necessitate diplomatic efforts following the unsuccessful attempts through warfare.

President Aoun assured that he would not compromise on Lebanon's rights or the sovereignty of the South. He committed to urging US President Donald Trump to encourage Israel to adhere to the framework agreement, withdraw from all Lebanese territories, and formally renounce any territorial ambitions in Lebanon. Aoun aims to leverage Washington's current diplomatic momentum towards regional peace in this endeavor.
