Beirut: The American University of Beirut (AUB) is set to hold a roundtable discussion titled "Official Exams in Education: Benefits and Challenges," focusing on the implications of official examinations within the Lebanese education system. The event aims to bring together key stakeholders from the education sector to discuss the impact on academic standards, equity, student progression, and university readiness.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, the roundtable will take place at the Issam Fares Institute (IFI) Conference Room on the AUB campus on September 22, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. The event will be available both in person and online via Zoom. Participants will include Dr. Rima Karami, the minister of education and higher education, along with deans and representatives from faculties of education, public and private schools, and various educational initiatives and institutions.

The discussion will explore the significance and function of official examinations, potential modifications to assessments during disruptions, the challenges faced by students, and the effects on students transitioning to higher education with different levels of academic preparation. The event seeks to pinpoint areas of agreement and develop practical recommendations for policymakers and educational institutions. The insights gathered will contribute to a dissemination paper intended to inform future educational strategies.
