Beirut: Head of the Free Patriotic Movement, MP Gebran Bassil, has voiced criticism over certain lawmakers' attempts to exploit the ongoing Israeli war on Lebanon to justify extending their parliamentary terms by two years. Bassil expressed his concerns through a post on the platform "X."

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Bassil argued that any force majeure measures should align proportionately with the duration and impact of the war, rather than equating to half of a parliamentary term. He emphasized that such extensions should be based on necessity rather than convenience.

Bassil disclosed that his political bloc has proposed a draft law advocating for a four-month extension. This proposal, he noted, stems from a belief in consistently deferring to the decisions of the public.
