Baabda: Free Patriotic Movement leader, MP Gebran Bassil, has reiterated his commitment to defending Lebanon, its army, and its citizens, while dispelling allegations of monopolizing justice.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Bassil addressed these issues during a dinner hosted by the FPM's Baabda district branch. He emphasized the movement's consistent respect for the judiciary, citing its history of legal challenges through constitutional means, including appeals to the Constitutional Council. Bassil criticized those who, in his view, undermine justice by granting pardons to criminals, positioning such actions as contrary to the principles of judicial respect and integrity.

Bassil acknowledged the isolation FPM faces in its principled stands but maintained that the movement will not abandon its positions for the sake of appeasement. He expressed concerns over general amnesties, arguing that they could inadvertently encourage recidivism while leaving the Lebanese population vulnerable.

He further articulated the FPM's constitutional right to challenge laws, warning of the potential negative impact on Lebanon's judiciary if current interpretations persist. Bassil also addressed the electricity sector, countering attempts to intimidate the FPM with forensic audit threats. He welcomed scrutiny, asserting that the movement's energy initiatives provided the most economical electricity options compared to private generators, which impose higher costs on citizens.

In his remarks, Bassil highlighted the FPM's role in establishing cost-effective power plants and securing affordable electricity through strategic imports, reinforcing the movement's transparency and accountability in the energy sector.
