Beirut: The Ministry of Culture - Directorate General of Antiquities announced today that Beaufort Castle has not been destroyed as a result of the explosions carried out by the Israeli enemy in the area opposite the castle.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the Directorate explained that the vibrations caused by those explosions may have resulted in damage to the area surrounding the castle, but the extent of any damage cannot be determined without a direct on-site inspection. It noted that the site is currently under occupation, making it impossible for the specialized technical teams to access the area and conduct the necessary assessment.

The Directorate also recalled that Beaufort Castle was inscribed on the UNESCO List of World Heritage in Danger on 24 July 2026, during the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee, as part of the nomination of the Five Castles of Jabal Amel. The castle has also enjoyed Enhanced Protection since 2024 under the Second Protocol to the Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict.
