Beirut: House Speaker Nabih Berri met with Deputy Speaker Elias Bou Saab at Ain el-Tineh to discuss recent political developments, legislative matters, and the efforts of the parliamentary fact-finding committee.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Bou Saab highlighted the importance of Berri’s speech on the anniversary of Imam Moussa Sadr’s disappearance, praising the Imam’s vision and national positions. He drew comparisons between Sadr’s legacy and Berri’s leadership, particularly in the context of current challenges.
Bou Saab addressed the ‘serious threat facing Lebanon,’ referencing Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s display of a map suggesting territorial ambitions. He emphasized the necessity of national unity against external threats and advocated for the full implementation of the Taif Accord. This includes exclusive state control over arms, electoral reform, political secularization, and administrative decentralization.
He further advocated for the formation of the National Commission to Abolish Political Sectarianism, a move Berri had previously attempted. Bou Saab stressed the need for internal dialogue among the President, Prime Minister, and political stakeholders to advance these reforms.
He announced that the parliamentary investigation committee would begin formal sessions this week to hear from relevant ministers, in accordance with procedures agreed upon with Speaker Berri.
Additionally, Speaker Berri met with former minister Ghazi Aridi to discuss Lebanon’s political situation and regional developments.
