Beirut: The municipality of Bint Jbeil on Saturday condemned what it described as the continued "crimes and violations" committed by Israeli forces against the town, its residents, and its public and private facilities, stating that they constituted a "blatant violation" of international humanitarian law and international conventions prohibiting attacks on civilians, civilian objects, and public institutions.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the municipality reported that Israeli forces had recently destroyed three government facilities in the al-Awini neighborhood: the Second Official Mixed School of Bint Jbeil, a Social Affairs Center, and the Bint Jbeil office of the South Lebanon Water Establishment. These facilities served vital roles in education, social welfare, and water services, impacting numerous towns in the Bint Jbeil, Tyre, and Marjayoun districts.

Previous attacks had also caused damage to various educational, health, religious, and administrative institutions, including the Lebanese Red Cross center, several schools, and the Lebanese University building. The municipality highlighted the destruction of mosques, hospitals, and emergency medical centers, emphasizing the widespread impact on the town's infrastructure.

The statement detailed a recent attack on March 30, 2026, in which Israeli forces targeted an ambulance inside Bint Jbeil Governmental Hospital, resulting in the deaths of paramedics and the destruction of the hospital's medicine warehouse. Additionally, the attacks included fires and destruction in various parts of the town, affecting the government complex, municipal facilities, electricity, water distribution, and numerous private properties.

The municipality claimed these actions were part of a declared Israeli policy, referring to comments by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz about creating destruction similar to that in the Gaza Strip. It argued that the situation in Bint Jbeil and other border towns represented a comprehensive effort to alter the civilian environment and demographics through force.

In response, the municipality urged the Lebanese state and its institutions to document the violations, prepare legal cases for international courts, and seek compensation and accountability. It stated that evidence and documentation had been collected and submitted to relevant authorities and legal bodies.

The municipality concluded that the rights of Bint Jbeil and its residents to return, reconstruction, compensation, and accountability would endure, emphasizing that "war crimes do not expire with time."
