Bisat Affirms No Bread Price Hike Despite Diesel Costs

Beirut: Minister of Economy and Trade, Dr. Amer Bisat, on Tuesday met with a delegation from the Bakery Owners’ Syndicate, headed by Nasser Srour, alongside Syndicate Secretary Naeem Al-Khawaja and Director General of Grains and Sugar Beet at the Ministry, Issam Abou Jaoudeh. Minister Bisat reiterated that no increase will be made to the price of bread despite rising diesel prices. He thanked the Syndicate for its cooperation and emphasized that safeguarding food security and price stability remains a top priority for the Ministry.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the discussion underscored the Ministry’s commitment to maintaining the current bread prices, aiming to protect consumers from the impact of fluctuating fuel costs. The meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration between the government and industry representatives to ensure essential goods remain affordable.

Dr. Bisat assured the Bakery Owners’ Syndicate that the government is working on measures to mitigate the effects of rising diesel prices on production costs. He expressed appreciation to the Syndicate for its understanding and support in prioritizing the welfare of citizens.

The Syndicate’s leadership acknowledged the Ministry’s efforts and expressed readiness to cooperate in any initiative that aims to promote economic stability. Both parties agreed to continue dialogue and monitor the situation closely to respond swiftly to any challenges that may arise.
