Beirut: Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, on Tuesday, engaged in an important meeting with a delegation representing the families of the Beirut Port blast victims at the Grand Serail. Spokesman William Noun conveyed that the discussions were primarily centered on the stalled investigation into the blast and emphasized the necessity for the Interior Ministry to enforce any forthcoming arrest warrants related to the incident.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Noun highlighted the significance of preserving the Beirut grain silos, advocating for them to be maintained as a site of collective memory. He noted that a comprehensive preservation plan, funded externally, has been developed in collaboration with the Order of Engineers to ensure the site’s sustainability.
In addition to the meeting with the victims’ families, PM Salam also engaged with Gabriel Fernini, President of Rebirth Beirut, along with members of the organization. The delegation outlined their ongoing efforts to maintain and repair traffic signals across the capital and to illuminate more than 150 streets. They also introduced a new project, supported by Middle East Airlines, aimed at lighting up the airport road. This initiative received commendation from the Prime Minister, who encouraged its completion ahead of the upcoming tourism season.
In a separate meeting, PM Salam welcomed IMF Mission Chief Ernesto Rigo and Resident Representative Frederico Lima. The discussions were focused on the ongoing negotiations with Lebanese authorities and the essential reforms required to facilitate a formal agreement with the International Monetary Fund.
