Brasilia: The Brazilian government is closely monitoring the discussions following the announcement by the U.S. government, on September 29, of a new ceasefire plan for the Gaza Strip, whose population continues to suffer from deaths, forced displacement, hunger, and the destruction of homes and vital infrastructure.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, while recognizing the efforts of the mediating countries to end the conflict, Brazil hopes that, if accepted and implemented by the parties, the plan will result, among other measures, in the immediate and permanent cessation of Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, the release of the remaining hostages, the unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid, and the urgent commencement of the reconstruction of the territory, under Palestinian ownership and supervision. Brazil also stands for the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the restoration of the political and geographic unity of Palestine.

In this context, Brazil reiterates its belief that the only path to a just, stable, and lasting peace in the Middle East is through the implementation of a two-State solution, with an independent and viable State of Palestine living side by side with Israel in peace and security within the 1967 borders, including the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Finally, it considers that any International Stabilization Force to be deployed in the region must have a carefully crafted mandate duly approved by the United Nations Security Council.
