Catholic Leaders in Lebanon Condemn Insults Against Patriarch al-Rahi, Urge Legal Action


Beirut: The Executive Committee of the Council of Catholic Patriarchs and Bishops in Lebanon strongly condemned the insults, defamation, and abuse directed at its president, the Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Bechara Boutros al-Rahi, through media outlets and social media platforms.



According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the committee issued a statement firmly rejecting any offense against religious and national figures. It emphasized that freedom of expression should not be misused as a means for insult, incitement, or undermining civil peace. The committee called on the competent judicial authorities to take necessary measures against anyone proven to be involved in such actions.



The committee further urged all Lebanese citizens to act responsibly and respect religious leadership and symbols, to preserve social unity and safeguard the dignity of the nation.
