Beirut:Chinese Ambassador to Lebanon, Chen Chuandong, hosted a reception at the Phoenicia Hotel to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Lebanon.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, the event was attended by Public Works and Transport Minister Fayez Rasamny, representing President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, along with senior officials, ministers, MPs, security representatives, ambassadors, and various diplomatic, media, and social figures.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Chen emphasized China's economic development and its approach to Middle East security, which involves respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity, resolving conflicts through dialogue, ensuring regional ownership of security decisions, and linking development with stability. He also reiterated that the Palestinian issue is crucial for achieving lasting regional peace.

Minister Rasamny, speaking on behalf of President Aoun, Prime Minister Salam, and the Lebanese Republic, congratulated Chinese President Xi Jinping, the government, and the Chinese people. He noted that the 55-year relationship between Lebanon and China has grown from friendship to practical cooperation. He expressed gratitude for China's support of Lebanon's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity, and its contributions to reconstruction and development efforts, particularly in war-affected areas like South Lebanon.

Rasamny highlighted a newly signed development cooperation agreement and China's donation of 100 buses to Lebanon's Railway and Public Transport Authority as evidence of their bilateral cooperation. He also mentioned the National Higher Conservatory of Music as a cultural aspect of their partnership.

Discussing transport and connectivity, Rasamny stated that Lebanon is working to reactivate Kleyat Airport and plans to reconnect Tripoli Port by rail through Akkar to the Syrian network, extending to the Arab hinterland. He emphasized Lebanon's potential as a connection hub in the region, facilitated by its participation in China's Belt and Road Initiative and its strategic location in the eastern Mediterranean.

Rasamny concluded by expressing optimism about a more ambitious Lebanese-Chinese partnership, capable of creating new opportunities for both countries.

The event also included performances of Chinese folkloric art, adding a cultural touch to the celebration.
