E3 Offers Immediate Nuclear Talks to Iran Amid Israeli Attacks

Jerusalem: As Iran endures a series of attacks by “Israel”, the European trio of Germany, France, and Britain (E3) focused their statements on condemning Iran and upholding “Israel’s” right to self-defense. Despite the strikes initiated by “Israel”, the E3 did not criticize the offensive, instead emphasizing the necessity for de-escalation and renewed diplomatic efforts.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz acknowledged that Berlin was forewarned of the attack on Tehran, while French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed France’s readiness to “defend Israel”. Concurrently, the UK is dispatching additional fighter jets and support aircraft to the Middle East, a move described by Prime Minister Keir Starmer as “contingency support” for the region.

In light of the E3’s perspective that positions Iran as the aggressor, despite being under Israeli assault, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul announced the willingness of Germany, France, and Britain to initiate immediate negotiations with Iran about Tehran’s nuclear program. This initiative aims to alleviate the mounting tensions in the Middle East.

Wadephul, who is visiting the region, stressed the goal of contributing to the de-escalation of the conflict between “Israel” and Iran. He noted that Tehran had previously missed chances for constructive dialogue but expressed optimism for a different outcome this time.

“I hope that’s still possible,” Wadephul stated on German public broadcaster ARD. “Germany, together with France and Britain, are ready. We’re offering Iran immediate negotiations about the nuclear programme, I hope (the offer) is accepted.”

Wadephul pointed out that successful negotiations could be a vital step toward calming the broader conflict. “This is also a key prerequisite for reaching a pacification of this conflict, that Iran presents no danger to the region, for the state of Israel or to Europe,” he added.

It is notable that the US and E3 have urged the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to officially declare Iran in violation of its nuclear non-proliferation obligations at the upcoming quarterly Board of Governors meeting slated for June 9, according to diplomatic sources.
