Echoes of Beirut: A Cultural Exhibition Capturing the City’s Memory


Beirut: Echoes of Beirut, a photography exhibition documenting the city’s memory from the civil war to the Beirut Port explosion, opened on Thursday, 29 January at Beit Beirut – Sodeco. The opening ceremony brought together Mr. Haitham Sayyad, Advisor and the representative of Governor of Beirut, Judge Marwan Abboud, H.E. the Ambassador of Canada to Lebanon, Mr. Gregory Galligan, UNDP Resident Representative Ms. Blerta Aliko, UN Women Resident Representative, Ms. Gielan Elmessiri and representatives of official institutions, as well as local and international partners.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the exhibition offers a deep dive into the human stories embedded in the city’s spaces through the lens of photography. It serves as a platform for visitors to reflect on Beirut’s past while imagining the future. The event is organized by UNDP in collaboration with UN Women and is funded by the Government of Canada.

The exhibition, which will continue until Sunday, 1 February 2026, not only aims to
highlight the historical transitions of Beirut but also to engage the audience in a dialogue about the city’s resilience and cultural heritage.
