Baabda: Lebanese Forces leader, Samir Geagea, announced a ‘full consensus’ with President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, on essential internal reforms. This declaration followed a meeting at Baabda Palace, emphasizing their united stance on recent developments within the country.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Geagea confirmed that communication with President Aoun has been continuous, both prior to and following his election. The meeting served as an opportunity to evaluate the current situation in Lebanon and to agree upon necessary domestic actions. Geagea stated, “The alignment was one hundred percent,” indicating a strong agreement between the two leaders.
Geagea expressed his confidence in President Aoun’s intention and determination to build a functioning state in Lebanon, highlighting progress already made towards this goal. He emphasized the urgent need for establishing a real state, a sentiment shared by Lebanese citizens, beyond any external pressures.
Discussing regional issues, Geagea noted the abnormal situation spanning from Yemen to Lebanon and suggested that a potential U.S.-Iranian understanding could favor Lebanon’s interests. He also emphasized the importance of a unified army and insisted that decisions regarding war and peace should be solely in the hands of the government.
When questioned about the current presidency, Geagea remarked that he has not detected any signs of corruption during the past five months of President Aoun’s term.
