Geagea Criticizes Lebanese Parliamentary Session, Proposes Bill to Shorten Term

Beirut: Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea described the past two days of parliamentary proceedings as a "major scandal," criticizing lawmakers for failing to pass what he called a long-overdue amnesty law while approving legislation that he said could impose hundreds of millions of dollars in additional costs on the state. In a statement, Geagea warned that the measures adopted by parliament risk pushing Lebanon back into the cycle that led to its financial and economic collapse in 2019.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Geagea stated that the Strong Republic bloc would study submitting a draft law to shorten the current parliament's term. He noted that the mandate had already been extended and argued that the reasons for the extension no longer exist.
