GEAGEA MEETS FRENCH AMBASSADOR, SAYS “LF DOESN’T BELIEVE A CONSENSUAL PRESIDENT CAN PUSH MATTERS TOWARDS A SOLUTION”

“Lebanese Forces” party leader, Samir Geagea, on Friday met at the party’s headquarters in Maarab with French Ambassador to Lebanon, Anne Grillo, accompanied by diplomats Quentin Jeantet and Romain Calvary. The meeting reportedly focused on the country’s latest political developments.

According to a statement, and during the meeting which lasted for approximately an hour, Geagea said that the Lebanese Forces did not believe that the “so-called consensual president” could push matters towards a solution.

“There is a difference in the way state affairs are managed between us and Hezbollah and its allies, let alone the great ideological differences vis-a-vis Lebanon’s image, role, entity, and sovereignty,” Geagea said, pointing as well to Lebanon’s failing experiences with previous consensual presidents.

“With Hezbollah, we cannot find a middle ground between the higher Lebanese national interest and its party’s ideology and vision, which are an integral part of the Iranian project,” Geagea explained.

“Albeit, the next president must be able to communicate with all the Lebanese parties and must work on persuading them to adopt an approach that serves the supreme Lebanese national interest,” he added.
