Beirut: Minister of Labour Mohammad Haidar on Monday received United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Representative in Lebanon Karolina Lindholm Billing, who headed a delegation, to discuss the issue of foreign labor, particularly undocumented Syrian workers. Talks focused on mechanisms to regularize their status through obtaining work permits and legal residency, in accordance with procedures in force at the Ministry of Labour and the General Security Directorate, and in light of the decision taken to facilitate the settlement of their status at both institutions. Billing expressed her satisfaction with the measures being implemented by the Minister of Labour in this regard.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, separately, Minister Haidar met with a delegation from the Employees’ Union of the National Social Security Fund, headed by Hassan Houmani, in the presence of General Confederation of Lebanese Workers President Bishara Al-Asmar and his deputy Hassan Faqih. Houmani described the atmosphere of the meeting as “very positive” with regard to all issues raised.
