Beirut: Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam chaired a meeting of the Higher Council for Privatization and PPP, attended by several ministers and key officials, to review significant projects related to the Tripoli Special Economic Zone and the Deir Ammar power initiative.
According to National news agency - Lebanon, the meeting included Finance Minister Yassine Jaber, Economy and Trade Minister Amer Bisat, Labor Minister Mohammad Haidar, and other cabinet members. Discussions focused on the financial, technical, and legal aspects of the Tripoli Special Economic Zone project, leading to its referral to the Cabinet, which granted approval for the next steps in selecting a private-sector partner as per the Public-Private Partnership Law.
The council also considered a draft decree regarding the establishment of an Electricit© du Liban company, examining asset valuation, activity separation, and articles of incorporation. However, a decision on this project was postponed for further analysis.
Continuing its sessions, the council reviewed comprehensive studies from the International Finance Corporation concerning the Deir Ammar II project. This project involves establishing a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit and a new power plant. The council approved the study findings and referred the project file to the Cabinet, facilitating the private-sector partner selection process under the Public-Private Partnership framework.
