Huawei Technologies Lebanon officially launched with the American University of Science & Technology AUST the Huawei Authorized Learning Partner HALP, in presence of H.E Qian Minjian, Ambassador of China to Lebanon, and media representatives.
The signing ceremony moderated by Dr. Roger Achkar, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, was held at the premises of the AUST, where the Chinese delegation from the Embassy and Huawei Lebanon was warmly welcomed by Mrs. Hiam Sakr, President of AUST, that expressed her gratitude and pride to be collaborating with Huawei since 2019 to promote the skills of AUST students in the ICT field, and wished to build a new fruitful collaboration with the launching of the HALP.
Commenting on this occasion, H.E Qian Minjian, Ambassador of China to Lebanon said: “As we all know, the development of the digital economy through information technology and communication technologies can promote digital transformation in various industries and bring economic development into the fast track. I sincerely hope that the HALP program of Huawei, launched with AUST today, will have great outcomes to boost the digital growth in Lebanon, and that students of AUST University will make full use of the AI lab donated by Huawei, learn skills and do well in scientific research, and contribute to Lebanon’s national revitalization with your talents. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Lebanon. The Chinese Embassy will encourage more Chinese enterprises to cooperate with Lebanon in various fields while promoting government aid programs such as the Higher Conservatory of Music and vaccine donation. Let us jointly build the Belt and Road Initiative and achieve more results and build a monument to friendship between the two countries.”
Dr. Riad Sakr, AUST’s Vice president also expressed his enthusiasm towards establishing the HALP program and strengthening the relationship even more with Huawei Lebanon: “It gives me great pleasure to celebrate the signing of the HALP agreement between the American University of Science and Technology and Huawei. At AUST, we are committed to contributing to the betterment of society, by preparing students for effective and responsible membership in their professional and social communities. For this matter, AUST has signed an agreement with Huawei to establish the first ICT artificial intelligence academy in Lebanon. This collaboration has allowed AUST to organize several training courses and workshops in the field of AI, 5G, IOT, Cloud Computing, and other topics. I would like to thank His Excellency, Ambassador of China, for his presence today at AUST. The first course in AI is offered during the Fall 2021/2022 academic semester under HALP where more than 140 students and professionals are already registered. We at AUST are proud with such partnerships and collaborations that aim to improve education and promote innovation and research.”
Mr. Aiden Li (Lixiaofeng) CEO of Huawei Lebanon, said: “AUST is a dear partner to Huawei Lebanon since 2019, and has been achieving great strides on the ICT Talent Ecosystem level, with the Huawei ICT Academy. Today, with this signing ceremony, we are launching a new partnership, the HALP, that will be very beneficial for both parties, and strengthen even more our trust in our collaboration.
Through this agreement, we will be working together to boost digital transformation across industries, with specialized and customized trainings based on Huawei courses and solutions. Trainees will have technical knowledge and practical skills in interrelated domains, which will lead to more opportunities in career choice and advancement.”
The ceremony ended with an exchange of appreciation awards, between Huawei Lebanon, AUST and the Chinese Embassy, as well as a cake cutting and buffet.
