Amal Charif’s candidacy in the 2016 Beirut municipal elections made headlines: She was the first disabled woman to run for office in the city’s history. So it was only natural that when she went to cast her ballot, she was accompanied by an entourage of local media. What they discovered upon arriving at the polling station, however, was that the building was completely inaccessible to people with disabilities.
