Islamic Council Urges National Unity and Support for State Authority

Beirut:The Supreme Islamic Sharia Council, under the leadership of Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, convened at Dar Al-Fatwa to address pressing national and Islamic concerns, emphasizing the importance of maintaining Lebanon's stability and bolstering state institutions.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, the council, through a statement by Sheikh Fayez Seif, appealed to political leaders to prioritize national interests over personal and partisan agendas, cautioning against divisions that could further destabilize the nation. The council reiterated its support for the Taif Agreement, the Constitution, and the unity of the Lebanese state, advocating for the extension of state authority throughout the country and the exclusive control of weapons by legitimate military and security institutions.

The council also called for cooperation among political groups with state institutions, urging them not to undermine their authority. It praised the Lebanese security forces for intercepting explosive devices and called for backing Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and his government, emphasizing accountability for anyone endangering national security, irrespective of political or sectarian ties.

It also condemned the attack on a church in Jordan's Karak Governorate, labeling it as terrorism unrelated to religion and an attempt to disrupt the country's security and stability.

Regarding Palestine, the council urged the international community to act against attacks, violations, and massacres against Palestinians, to protect religious sites, and to support the Palestinian people's right to an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
