Israeli Forces Continue Assault on Southern Lebanon Despite Truce

Beirut: The Israeli army persisted with its military operations targeting southern Lebanon, disregarding the existing truce, according to reports from Lebanese state media. The operations included intense artillery shelling, demolition of homes, and setting fire to agricultural fields in border towns. According to TRTworld.com, the Lebanese official National News Agency reported that the town of Mansouri in the South Governorate was subjected to Israeli artillery shelling. Additionally, Israeli forces conducted bulldozing activities in Houla, located in the Nabatieh Governorate. In a separate incident in Nabatieh, homes were destroyed in Khiam's western neighborhood near the Al-Mabarrat schools, resulting in multiple explosions and heavy smoke. The agency further detailed that Israeli forces deliberately set fire to agricultural lands and properties in the town, leading to the spread of the fires across various areas. These actions occurred alongside ongoing Israeli military movements in the region, raising tensions and caution among the local population. The continuation of Israeli military actions comes despite a US-sponsored framework agreement signed on June 26 between Beirut and Tel Aviv. The agreement outlined a phased Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territories in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army and the disarmament of armed groups, including Hezbollah. Since the onset of the assault on March 2, Lebanese authorities have reported 4,348 fatalities and 12,307 injuries, with over 1 million people displaced. Israel's occupation of areas in southern Lebanon has persisted for decades, with recent advances extending more than 10 kilometers into Lebanese territory during the current conflict. Israel also maintains control over Palestinian and Syrian territories and continues to resist withdrawal and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, as stipulated by UN resolutions.
