Beirut: MP Ibrahim Kanaan on Thursday met with Minister of Public Works and Transport, Fayez Rasamny, to discuss the infrastructure and development needs of the Metn district, which encompasses coastal, central, and mountainous areas.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the discussions focused on projects funded by the 2024 state budget that had been delayed due to Israeli aggression but have now resumed in areas such as Al-Ayoun, Al-Masqa, Al-Ghaba, and Mazraat Yachouh. Additional work is planned for Baabdat, Al-Safileh, Nabeyeh, Joura El-Ballout, Jal El-Dib, Dekwaneh Square leading to Ashrafieh Bridge, Aintoura, Deir Mar Elias Shweir, the Mansourieh-Mar Roukoz engineering faculty road, Qanabeh-Bsalim, Jal El-Dib-Nabeyeh-Brummana, and Jdeideh-Fanar-Kefraya.
The meeting also covered $3 million worth of 2025 projects, including the Antelias-Bikfaya-Majdel Tarchich road. This project has been studied, contracted, and is expected to be referred to the Court of Audit within days. Other roads under review for rehabilitation include Mkalles-Ain Saadeh-Baabdat-Dawar and Baabdat-Dahr El-Souwan-Bikfaya, which have been incorporated into the northern Metn’s paving and development plans.
Work is also anticipated to resume on the long-stalled Baskinta-Sannine-Zahle project, as well as Bakish Road, the asphalt works in Naba’a Jaafar, and the Wadi El-Dalb Road. Kanaan emphasized the importance of maintaining cooperation, especially with the upcoming 2026 budget, and praised the minister’s approach across Lebanon. He confirmed that road rehabilitation in Metn is underway and noted close coordination with Minister Rasamny to avoid further delays, particularly on key projects such as Beit Misk Road, the coastal route to Keserwan, and Baskinta-Zahle, which had been halted since 2019 due to the economic collapse.
Kanaan concluded by applauding the approval and contracting of the Mkalles-Mansourieh-Ain Saadeh-Baabdat-Dawar road project, pledging to oversee its execution.
