Kataeb Party Warns Against Hezbollah’s Actions and Calls for State Control Over Weapons

Beirut:The Kataeb Political Bureau, led by Party leader Samy Gemayel, held its weekly meeting to address ongoing political, security, economic, and social issues in Lebanon. A statement released after the meeting highlighted the Bureau's concerns over Hezbollah's potential to involve Lebanon in another "war of support," which could lead to further devastation in South Lebanon. The Bureau urged the government to enforce mechanisms for the immediate implementation of decisions to bring all weapons under state control and to prohibit Hezbollah's military and security activities.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, the Kataeb reiterated its demand for Hezbollah to be referred to the Judicial Council. This follows the party's acknowledgment of transporting explosives across Lebanese territories, posing risks to civilians. The Bureau emphasized the importance of identifying and holding accountable those responsible, without political protection or immunity.

The statement further expressed support for the residents of Jabal Amel and South Lebanon, who have voiced their opposition to their region being used for regional conflicts or as a tool in Iran's ambitions. The Kataeb called for measures to protect the South, end Israeli attacks, and ensure a complete Israeli withdrawal. These actions should accompany the removal of Hezbollah's armed presence, placing military decisions solely under the Lebanese State's authority, ensuring the safe return of displaced residents, and rebuilding affected communities.

Additionally, the Kataeb urged Shiite political and religious leaders to assume their responsibilities and prioritize the safety and security of the South's residents over political alliances with Hezbollah. The Bureau emphasized that the South belongs to its people and that its protection relies on the Lebanese state's full sovereignty.

Lastly, the Bureau expressed concern over the hardships faced by residents of border villages due to isolation and limited access to essential services. The Kataeb commended their resilience and called for the creation of an emergency task force to address these challenges. The task force should coordinate with the Lebanese Army, local municipalities, and UNIFIL to ensure freedom of movement, access to supplies, healthcare, education, and to implement an emergency response plan to keep these villages connected to the rest of the country.
