Beirut:Lebanese University President Dr. Bassam Badran and Minister of State for Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence Dr. Kamal Shehadeh have signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance collaboration in the fields of artificial intelligence, digital transformation, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, the agreement is set for one year and can be renewed. It encompasses scientific research, policy development, technical consultancy, digital skills training, and capacity building for public-sector employees, students, and other stakeholders.

The memorandum also outlines collaboration with university faculty and specialists, providing access to academic learning platforms, supervised internships, graduation projects, applied research, and knowledge-sharing initiatives. At the signing ceremony, Badran emphasized the partnership's potential to leverage the university's academic and research capabilities to influence national technology and innovation policies.

Badran underscored artificial intelligence as a transformative force that necessitates closer ties between academia and government to cultivate expertise and ensure responsible application. He reiterated the university's dedication to fostering a national digital innovation ecosystem based on scientific knowledge, ethical standards, and institutional accountability. He expressed optimism that the agreement would lead to practical projects that benefit Lebanon's public institutions and youth.

Shehadeh, highlighting the university's academic prowess, stressed the significance of turning the partnership into tangible joint initiatives. He pointed out that research, strategic guidance, digital skills development, training, and capacity building are vital areas for cooperation under the agreement.
