Lebanon Records Over 1,700 Israeli Ceasefire Violations Since April 17

Morcos: Lebanon: Lebanon's Information Minister, Paul Morcos, announced that the country has documented more than 1,700 Israeli ceasefire violations since April 17, as per official records. These violations reportedly include 818 Israeli airstrikes, 641 artillery attacks, 270 demolition operations, and 15 phosphorus shelling incidents, all occurring between April 17 and May 8. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Morcos shared these alarming figures during an interview with Al-Jadeed television, emphasizing that the attacks have targeted civilians, journalists, and rescue teams. He described these acts as serious breaches of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions. The Minister underscored the critical need for documenting these violations as part of Lebanon's efforts to strengthen the ceasefire and engage in legal actions through official channels. Further addressing the issue of hate speech, Morcos noted that the Information Ministry's authority over traditional and social media is limited. He stated that only judicial authorities have the power to prosecute and impose sanctions for such offenses. Despite these limitations, Morcos highlighted ongoing initiatives including awareness campaigns, training programs, and proposed media legislation aimed at regulating online platforms and criminalizing hate speech, all while ensuring the preservation of freedom of expression.
