MAKARY: MEDIA EDUCATION ESSENTIAL TOOL TO MITIGATE CYBERBULLYING

The “Justice Without Borders” organization on Monday held a panel discussion on “cyberbullying” within the framework of implementing the “Access to Justice” project, at the Padova Hotel – Sin El Fil. Sponsoring the event, Caretaker Minister of Information, Ziyad Makary, said that media awareness remains an essential pillar to secure an immune community. ‘Therefore, I say that we must, in cooperation with human rights organizations and media outlets, contribute to building a safe global community through more awareness,’ Makary added. ‘We must promote a society that respects the privacy of others in light of the rapidly fading barriers – a society capable of expressing its rejection of blackmail, defamation, libel, and slander,’ explained Makary. He went on to deem “media education an essential tool to mitigate cyberbullying and its negative repercussions.’ ‘All types of bullying are harmful, but cyberbullying remains the most dangerous type of bullying because its perpetrators remain anonymous and most of its victims are under the age of 18,’ warned Makary.
