Siena:Interior and Municipalities Minister Ahmad Hajjar commended the Internal Security Forces (ISF) for intercepting a vehicle carrying explosives at the Dahr El-Baidar checkpoint and arresting the two occupants. He emphasized the importance of preventive security measures in safeguarding national stability.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, Hajjar, speaking at a meeting of the Central Internal Security Council, acknowledged the vigilance and professionalism demonstrated by ISF personnel. He noted that the operation showcased their ability to identify and neutralize security threats effectively.

The officers became suspicious of an overloaded grey Dodge Caravan on Monday and upon searching the vehicle, discovered explosives. The driver and passenger were arrested, and both, along with the seized materials, were referred to the Military Police under judicial instructions.

Hajjar stressed that understanding the full circumstances surrounding the case is as crucial as the seizure itself. He mentioned that the Lebanese Army Intelligence and the ISF Information Branch would broaden their investigations, as requested by the Cassation Public Prosecutor's Office, to identify those involved and ensure legal accountability.

Despite ongoing challenges, Hajjar reaffirmed the dedication of security agencies, the Army, and the judiciary to maintaining a high level of security. He instructed security forces to enhance inspections at checkpoints, increase patrols, and strengthen their deployment nationwide.

The meeting also reviewed the general security situation, focusing on preventive measures to combat drug smuggling, trafficking and use, as well as theft and other criminal activities.
