Beirut: The Ministry of Public Works and Transport stated that it had proactively commenced the cleaning and clearing of drains and stormwater channels, as well as the removal of soil and debris from sensitive locations in preparation for the rainy season. The ministry has been monitoring areas historically prone to water accumulation and implementing preventive measures along roads and facilities within its jurisdiction.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, the ministry has intensified these efforts over recent weeks, enhancing the readiness of drainage networks and field intervention teams to manage developments arising from heavy rainfall. On Friday morning, as heavy and concentrated rainfall occurred, the ministry maintained high readiness and rapid response levels, mobilizing technical teams, maintenance crews, and machinery to address the situation.

Several areas experienced temporary water accumulation due to the rainfall's intensity. Specialized teams were deployed to clear drains, reopen drainage channels, and remove obstructions and accumulated debris. In some locations, water subsided as the rainfall intensity diminished, aiding in the restoration of normal traffic flow.

In the Mkalles area, water laden with soil and gravel from Mansourieh overwhelmed drains and drainage channels, causing road and intersection flooding. Ministry teams and specialized machinery promptly intervened to clear the material, clean the drains, and reopen channels to restore normal traffic conditions.

Preliminary inspections revealed that a contractor in Mansourieh had left a worksite open without necessary protective measures, allowing soil and materials to wash into drainage networks. The ministry emphasized its zero tolerance for such negligence and committed to addressing the issue firmly, taking necessary measures against the contractor following a final technical investigation.

The ministry also began implementing measures to prevent recurrence at the site. It noted that some water accumulation captured in media occurred on roads managed by local authorities or other administrations. Nevertheless, it continues to coordinate with municipalities and relevant agencies to ensure a rapid response and protect public safety.

The ministry confirmed that its teams and crews remain on continuous alert and follow-up during adverse weather conditions.
