Beirut: Information Minister Paul Morcos convened a meeting with General Confederation of Lebanese Workers (CGTL) President Bechara Al-Asmar and representatives of the Ministries of Finance and Labor to discuss restoring the value of end-of-service indemnities for retirees whose benefits were severely eroded by Lebanon's financial crisis.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, the meeting followed the recent enactment of a law placing contract employees under the retirement system. Morcos stated that the next priority was addressing the social rights of retirees, noting that more than 70,000 contract workers and retirees had been affected by the loss in the value of their end-of-service compensation.

Morcos emphasized the necessity of reviving a legislative roadmap, in coordination with the government, Parliament, and the CGTL, to reach fair solutions that preserve retirees' rights and dignity. He added that the government preferred "action over words."

Al-Asmar praised Morcos for securing the retirement law for contract workers and called for extending the measure to all eligible contract employees across public institutions. He also welcomed renewed efforts to restore the value of end-of-service indemnities for those who retired between 2019 and 2024, describing them as victims of a profound injustice caused by the economic collapse.

Morcos reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing reforms benefiting all public-sector employees and retirees, thanking President Joseph Aoun for signing the retirement law and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri for supporting its passage.
