Nasreddine Discusses War Impact on Lebanon’s Health Sector with WHO Chief

Geneva: Public Health Minister, Rakan Nasreddine, on Tuesday continued his visit to Geneva, where he is participating in the World Health Assembly and met Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organization. Discussions focused on the major challenges facing Lebanon's health system amid the war.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Nasreddine highlighted the impact of Israeli attacks on medical teams and paramedics. He reported that 116 healthcare workers had been killed and 263 wounded. There has also been significant damage to ambulances, health centres, and hospitals, exacerbating the strain on Lebanon's already challenged health infrastructure.

The meeting underscored the urgent need for international support to aid Lebanon's health sector, which is grappling with the consequences of the ongoing conflict. The discussions between Nasreddine and Ghebreyesus aim to bring attention to these critical issues at a global platform, seeking collaborative efforts to mitigate the damage and enhance the resilience of Lebanon's healthcare system.
