Beirut: Parliament's Public Works, Transport, Energy and Water Committee on Wednesday held a session chaired by MP Sagih Atieh and attended by Public Works Minister Fayez Rasamny and relevant officials, focusing on the Qlayaat Airport project.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Atieh described the Rene Mouawad-Qlayaat Airport initiative as a "historic day" and a "source of hope," praising cooperation between the presidency, government, and the Ministry of Public Works in advancing the project. MP Mohammad Suleiman emphasized that the airport's operation represents long-awaited hope for northern Lebanon and is expected to create jobs for young people.
Civil Aviation Authority chief Captain Mohammad Aziz stated that the project is progressing technically in line with state directives. Atieh further noted that operations are expected to begin within 90 days of handover, stressing that Qlayaat Airport would complement, not compete with, Beirut airport.
