Beirut: Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam, in a meeting with a delegation from the Press Syndicate led by Dean Awni Al-Kaaki, reiterated Lebanon's commitment to the Swiss-formed cell aimed at consolidating the ceasefire. He highlighted that while the Washington negotiations are ongoing, their primary goal remains a full Israeli withdrawal from occupied territories.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Prime Minister Salam addressed the delegation's queries, emphasizing Lebanon's firm stance against the continued occupation of any disputed points. He underlined the need for the release of detainees and resolving remaining border issues, while also acknowledging the potential for Israeli-proposed security arrangements. Salam expressed cautious optimism about the negotiations, stating, "I am not pessimistic."

Discussing state control over arms and the implementation of the Taif Agreement, Salam stressed the non-negotiable nature of extending state authority and implementing reforms outlined in the agreement, which was adopted 36 years ago. He urged Hezbollah to honor its commitments under Resolution 1701, which includes extending state authority over Lebanese territory and ensuring the area south of the Litani River is free of weapons.

Salam clarified that the issue of arms' exclusivity is a sovereign Lebanese matter, not intended to appease Israel, and highlighted the overdue implementation of the Taif Agreement. He also addressed the nearing end of the mandate for the international force in southern Lebanon, emphasizing the importance of its presence for monitoring, reporting, and coordination.

Prime Minister Salam mentioned that the UN Secretary-General had proposed three options regarding the international force, with the Security Council responsible for the final decision. He noted that these options could be adjusted based on negotiation outcomes and military arrangements accompanying the Israeli withdrawal.
