Police: Motorist who drove van off cliff in protest committed “intolerable” traffic infractions

A video of a motorist abandoning his mini van and letting it careen down a steep valley in the southern governorate of Karak in protest of a traffic ticket he received has made waves on social media. However, the authorities have asserted that the man’s behavior was completely unwarranted, as he had committed severe traffic violations. According to the Public Security Department, the driver in question was cited for obstructing the flow of traffic by parking his vehicle in the middle of the road. Despite repeated requests from traffic police to remove his vehicle, the driver refused and said he needed to complete his shopping first. When the police officer requested the man to furnish his driver’s and vehicle’s licenses, it turned out that the man had let his vehicle license expire for 8 months, and his driver’s license had been invalid for 18 months, according to the PSD statement. Furthermore, during the license inspection, the police officer uncovered that the vehicle’s color had been modified, diverging from the color listed on the license, which is a violation of traffic regulations, the police said. The PSD said that the citations were entirely lawful and that the police officer was well within their rights to take action against such violations, which are intolerable and must be addressed in accordance with the law.
