Beirut: Pope Leo XIV concluded a two-day extraordinary consistory with a renewed appeal for peace, urging the Church and the international community to reject violence and pursue reconciliation. Lebanon was represented at the gathering by Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the Pope opened his address by expressing solidarity with the people of Venezuela following a devastating earthquake. He offered prayers for the victims, their families, and all those affected, while commending relief workers and calling for continued international support.

Reflecting on the consistory, Pope Leo described the meeting as a "precious moment" that should not remain an isolated event. He emphasized the importance of creating spaces throughout the Church where the People of God can listen, pray, discern, and walk together in the spirit of the Synod.

The Pope also endorsed a unanimous appeal issued during the consistory, calling on bishops, local churches, and people around the world to work for peace. He declared that God desires peace for every nation and every people, stating, "We cannot surrender to violence, and violence will not have the final word."

He further added that God continues to open paths of reconciliation and peace throughout history, urging everyone to have the courage to follow those paths and help the world recognize them.
