President Aoun Assures French Delegation of Lebanon’s Commitment to Ceasefire Agreement

Beirut: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, informed a delegation from the French Parliament that Lebanon has fully implemented the provisions of the ceasefire agreement in the south, with army deployment exceeding 85% of the area south of the Litani River.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, President Aoun’s statements were made during a meeting at Baabda Palace with a French parliamentary delegation consisting of Marc Fesneau, Arnaud Le Gall, Pierre Breteau, Alexandra Masson, and the French Ambassador to Lebanon, Herv© Magro. President Aoun highlighted that the Lebanese army is working with UNIFIL to enforce UN Resolution 1701 and its supplements, focusing on restricting weapons to the Lebanese armed forces. However, he pointed out that issues such as Israel’s occupation of the “five hills,” the detention of Lebanese prisoners, and ongoing acts of aggression are obstacles to the complete deployment of Lebanese forces to the recognized border.

President Aoun also expressed that cooperation with UNIFIL is ongoing and that Lebanon remains committed to maintaining this force in the south to support the army in achieving security and stability along the internationally recognized borders. He emphasized France’s central role in this effort.

In other developments, President Aoun held discussions at Baabda Palace with former Minister Abbas Hajj Hassan about the current situation. Additionally, President Aoun met with a delegation from the Marist Brothers School ‘Champville,’ including the school’s principal, Pascale Jalkh, who briefed him on the school’s conditions and the current educational challenges.
