President Aoun Meets Canadian Minister of State for International Development to Strengthen Bilateral Relations

Beirut: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, met with Canadian Minister of State for International Development, Randeep Sarai, at Baabda Palace to discuss Lebanese-Canadian relations and potential advancements in various sectors.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the meeting was attended by Canadian Ambassador to Lebanon, Gregory Galligan. Minister Sarai expressed Canada's support for Lebanon amidst current challenges and reiterated Canada's readiness to assist in the humanitarian and development fields, highlighting the strong historical ties between the two nations.

During the meeting, Minister Sarai extended an invitation for President Aoun to visit Canada and engage with Canadian officials. President Aoun detailed the current situation in Lebanon and emphasized the need for Canadian assistance in the humanitarian and social sectors. Particular focus was placed on aiding displaced southerners to return to their homes and providing temporary housing solutions in villages affected by conflict, pending a larger reconstruction effort by the Lebanese state.

President Aoun highlighted the importance of enhancing joint cooperation programs, especially in economic and investment domains. Minister Sarai affirmed Canada's willingness to explore these opportunities further. Discussions also covered the situation in southern Lebanon, with President Aoun advocating for adherence to the "framework agreement" and urging pressure on Israel to abide by its terms, particularly concerning the cessation of property destruction and civilian attacks.

Additionally, President Aoun welcomed economic collaboration between Lebanon and Canada, noting that security and political stability are vital for economic growth and investment. He applauded the contributions of the Lebanese diaspora in Canada towards supporting Lebanon.
